Michael Ho gave an overview of Chinese naming conventions and practices that family history researchers may encounter in their research. Topics included surnames, differences in pronunciations, name order, married women’s names, and alternate names. He provided a demonstration of conducting searches using Chinese names, along with strategies on how to obtain better results.
Michael Ho is the immediate past President of the Chinese Family History Group of Southern California. He has been researching his family heritage for almost 30 years. His research keeps expanding as he adds new layers to his family tree. Since 1996, Michael has visited his ancestral villages on six different occasions, continuing to expand upon the story of his family. In Michael’s spare time, he loves to assist and interpret records for people also researching their family roots.
